Ace, a brave little racing car, suddenly appears in Sodor and persuades Thomas the Tank Engine to embark on an ambitious journey: Thomas could become the first steam engine to travel the world!

Thomas is excited and sets off. His journey takes him through deserts, jungles and over dangerous mountains, he travels through five continents and past sights he has never seen before. On his journey to new places and cultures, Thomas befriends Nia, a daring and funny train from Kenya. While Thomas tries to keep up with the fast racing car Ace on his journey around the globe, he learns a lot of interesting things about the most diverse places in the world. Nia doesn't leave his side and tries to show Thomas the meaning of true friendship.
